The upper die for R-radius roller bending is essential for ensuring the efficient operation of bending machines, whose role in industrial production is indispensable and even critical. Typically, T8 or T10 steel is used for the material of such dies, with higher-grade T10A or 42CrMo being preferred in more demanding applications. The primary requirements are high strength, excellent toughness, and superior wear resistance. Bending-machine die technology is continuously being refined and advanced, moving toward CNC integration. To better match the operation of CNC bending machines, die designs have also been improved; different R-radius roller bending upper dies are suited to specific machines, playing a vital role in industrial manufacturing.

What is the operating principle of an R-radius roller bending machine? Let’s take a brief look together below.
The hydraulic press brake comprises a frame, a worktable, and a clamping plate. The worktable is mounted on the frame and consists of a base and a pressure plate. The base is connected to the clamping plate via hinges. The base itself is composed of a base housing, a coil, and a cover plate. The coil is housed in a recess in the base housing, and the top of this recess is covered by the cover plate.
During operation, an electric current is passed through the coil via lead wires, generating an attractive force on the pressure plate and thereby enabling the clamping of a thin workpiece between the pressure plate and the base. Because electromagnetic force is used for clamping, the pressure plate can be designed to meet the requirements of various workpieces, allowing machining of the workpiece’s side walls. By simply changing the bending machine’s dies, this utility model can accommodate the needs of a wide range of workpieces.
The maintenance of the R-round-arc roller bending machine primarily involves servicing its components. After aligning the upper die with the lower die, the machine should be lowered and powered off until work is completed. If it is necessary to start the machine or perform other operations, the mode selector must be set to manual, and all safety precautions must be observed. The specific maintenance procedures are as follows:
1. Hydraulic Circuit: Check the hydraulic tank oil level weekly; also check after any hydraulic system maintenance. If the oil level is below the sight glass, top up with hydraulic fluid. This machine uses HM46 or MOBIL DTE25 hydraulic oil. Replace the oil after the machine has operated for 2,000 hours, and thereafter every 4,000 to 6,000 operating hours. Each time the oil is changed, clean the hydraulic tank. The system oil temperature should be maintained between 40°C and 60°C, and must not exceed 70°C; excessive temperatures can lead to degradation and damage of the oil and components.
2. Filters: The filter shall be replaced or cleaned each time the oil is changed; if the press brake triggers a related alarm or if other filter-related abnormalities are detected, such as contaminated oil, the filter shall be replaced. The air filter on the oil tank shall be inspected and cleaned every three months and replaced at least once a year.
3. Hydraulic Components: Clean the hydraulic components of the fully automatic pipe-cutting machine (including the base plate, valves, motor, pump, oil lines, etc.) monthly to prevent contaminants from entering the system; do not use cleaning agents. After one month of operation, inspect the bent sections of all oil lines for deformation; if any abnormalities are found, the affected components must be replaced. After two months of operation, tighten all connection points of the components; during this procedure, the machine must be shut down and the system pressure must be relieved.
