A press brake die is a tool used in a press brake to form and shape sheet metal. Such dies are composed of various components, with different dies consisting of different parts. They primarily achieve the shaping of workpieces by altering the physical state of the material being formed. Specifically, they are tools that, under the action of the press brake’s pressing force, transform a blank into a finished part with a specific shape and dimensions. Press brake dies are classified into upper dies and lower dies; they are used for both forming and separating operations on sheet metal. Forming dies are equipped with cavities, while separating dies are equipped with cutting edges.
Operating specifications for press brake dies:
1. Connect the press brake to the power supply, turn the key switch, and press the oil pump start button. The press brake’s oil pump will begin to rotate, but the machine has not yet started operating at this point.
2. Stroke adjustment: Before commencing bending operations with the press brake die, a trial run must be performed. When the upper die of the press brake descends to its lowest position, there must be a gap equal to one sheet thickness; otherwise, both the die and the machine may be damaged. Stroke adjustment can be accomplished via electric quick adjustment or manual fine-tuning.
3. Selection of the die notch for a press brake: generally, the notch width should be eight times the plate thickness. For example, when bending a 4-mm-thick plate, a notch approximately 32 mm wide should be selected.
4. Inspect the alignment and rigidity of the upper and lower dies of the press brake; verify that all positioning devices meet the requirements of the workpiece being processed. Regularly check the alignment of the upper and lower dies and ensure that the pressure gauge readings comply with specifications.
5. When bending sheet metal, it must be firmly pressed down to prevent lifting and potential injury to operators. When adjusting the sheet-metal press die, the power supply must be disconnected and the machine must be stopped before proceeding.
6. When adjusting the opening of the lower die on a variable press brake, no material shall be in contact with the lower die.
7. It is prohibited to use the press brake die to bend iron plates that are excessively thick, quenched steel plates, high-grade alloy steels, square bars, or any sheet material that exceeds the press brake’s specified performance limits, in order to prevent damage to the machine tool.
8. To shut down the press brake, place wooden blocks beneath the lower dies on both sides of the hydraulic cylinders to lower the upper slide onto the blocks. First exit the control system program, then disconnect the power supply.
